Liverpool’s star attacker Mohamed Salah is “guaranteed” to leave the club this summer as the Egyptian’s current deal with The Reds is set to expire in 2025, stated former club defender Mark Lawrenson.
Lawrenson predicted that Salah, who signed a new deal with The Reds in 2022, will end his stint at the Merseyside club and join the rising Saudi Pro League.
"100 per cent Mo Salah will definitely leave this summer. No matter what happens this season, I think there was a deal last summer,” Lawrence said while to Paddy Power.
“He'll go and play somewhere like Saudi Arabia and hopefully Liverpool get a massive fee and get a couple of players off the back of it. Salah will be a king in Saudi.
“He could've gone last summer and stormed into Jurgen Klopp's office and said 'I want to go' but he's not done that. The lads who have come in [in Salah's absence] know that they're fighting for their position, which is great, as long as a couple of them don't get injured."
Salah became a club legend in just six years with the club as he formed one of the best-attacking trios of all time with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane — both are playing in the Saudi Pro League now — and helped the Reds win their first PL title since 1990 and UEFA Champions League since 2005.
Salah’s departure is strongly linked with Jurgen Klopp’s decision to call time on his Liverpool after almost nine years.
Earlier in January, Klopp announced he was leaving Liverpool saying he was running out of energy.
“I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it,” Klopp was quoted as saying by liverpoolfc.com.
